For years now when you think about summer jackets, linen is immediately the fabric that springs to mind. But bamboo has been growing in popularity over the last few years and with good reason.

It’s an amazing fabric for us tailors to work with and even better for you to wear. Bamboo fabric fibres are hollow, making it extremely breathable. Micro gaps and micro holes fill the fibres, ensuring better moisture absorption and superior ventilation to other fibres. Even better than linen! Here are some other amazing facts and benefits about our Bamboo fabrics:

  • Bamboo fabric is wonderfully soft. The smooth and round structure of the bamboo fibres contribute to the wonderful feel of this fabric.

  • It provides excellent heat regulation, perfect for those of us that tend to “run hot”. In warm weather, bamboo fabrics feel fresh but can also provide protection against the chill of a colder day due to their insulating properties that promote heat exchange.

  • It’s hypoallergenic! This means it doesn’t trigger any allergic reactions. This characteristic is a huge benefit to anyone who suffers from allergies or have sensitive skin.

  • UV Radiation Protection! Yes really! Bamboo fabric provides natural UV protection and can filter up to 97.5% of harmful UV rays. So on especially long hot days when you are dealing with prolonged exposure to sunlight, bamboo is the perfect fabric for that little bit of added protection.

  • Bamboo fabric has a natural crease resistance meaning it requires no pressing or ironing. The fabric holds it’s shape exceptionally well and this also makes garments like jackets made from bamboo the perfect summer travel companion because you don’t need to worry about wrinkling!

  • Sweat usually means being smelly right? Not so much with bamboo! Bamboo fabric absorbs up to 70% more moisture than cotton but doesn’t retain the unpleasant odours. Add to that the thermal-regulating properties of the fabric and moisture-wicking capabilities, a bamboo garment will help you keep fresh and sweat-free.

  • Although it’s popularity now raises some questions over it’s eco credentials, bamboo still has a positive environmental impact since the bamboo plant grows quickly without the need for pesticides, excessive water or care. Bamboo regenerates fast and even cleans the air while it grows. The bamboo species used for clothing is called Moso Bamboo.

The next time you are looking to have clothes made for summer wear, we strongly urge you to give Bamboo a try. As Patrick Shields told us, there’s no going back!
